In 2016 Henry, I and our children waved goodbye to the stress of our hectic life in the UK to start a new life in France at this wonderful campsite. Having worked in law and engineering in the UK, it was a complete change of lifestyle for both us and our children who were both thrown in at the deep end in their new French schools.
Although it was a big career and lifestyle change, we both had plenty of experience and fantastic memories of camping in France during our childhood and then with our own children. Whether we were in a tent, caravan or campervan, this was the perfect family holiday for us!
We both felt there was something special about Camping Bois de St Hilaire from the first time we visited. After a few years of hard work and a lot of investment, we have given the site a new lease of life. A new bar, sun terrace and boules court have been constructed and a woodfired pizza oven has been installed where Henry creates his masterpieces twice a week! Luxury showers have been created and the toilet block renovated.
The other big change is the glamping area we have created in our beautiful woodland. From cosy bell tents to luxurious safari lodges, we offer something to suit everybody’s taste and budget!
In 2018, we were lucky enough to be filmed for Channel 4’s “A New Life in the Sun”. It was such a fantastic experience and hopefully we didn’t come across too badly! If you missed it, check out episodes 21 to 25 of series 4 on All 4.
Over the years, we’ve discovered that running a campsite is far harder than we ever imagined, but the hard work is totally worth it for all the memorable experiences, fun times and wonderful new people we have met, many of whom have become friends.
